International human rights organizations have condemned the decision on Croatia's entry into Schengen
International human rights organizations have assessed the EU's decision on Croatia's entry into the Schengen zone as "a bad precedent for the future expansion of that area" because, as they say, Croatian authorities and border police violate European and international law in their treatment of migrants.
Humanitarian and human rights organizations claim that the Croatian police use violence against defenseless people, including ill-treatment and torture.
They demand a reform of the Croatian border surveillance mechanism, urgent investigations in cases of human rights violations and calling the responsible bodies to full responsibility.
The joint statement was signed by Amnesty International, Border Violence Monitoring Network, Center for Peace Studies, Danish Refugee Council, ECRE, Human Rights Watch, Oxfam and International Rescue Committee.
